You've probably constructed a few snowmen in your day, but have you ever stopped to ponder what's behind the carrot nose and coal eyes of this beloved winter tradition? According to an article in The Guardian, the earliest illustration of a snowman dates back to 1830. However, the first recorded snowman "sculpture" as we know it is still a mystery.
And check out these fun facts: The largest snowman—er, snowwoman—ever built stood more than 120 feet tall. Her name was Olympia Snowe, and she was constructed in Maine in 2008. And did you know that January 18 is "world snowman day"?
