Lace Up Your Running Shoes for a Good Cause During This Year’s Arlington Police, Fire & Sheriff 9/11 Memorial 5K, Taking Place Not Far From Indian Head
September 10, 2015
As we approach the 14th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks on New York City, you might want to consider getting your favorite running gear out of your closet at Indian Head. That's because every year since that fateful day, the streets of downtown Arlington flood with runners participating in the Arlington Police, Fire & Sheriff 9/11 Memorial 5K Race.
A not-for-profit event, this annual road race "honors the countless first responders and military personnel who responded that day and honors their continuous fight in the war on terrorism." How does it do it? First, all of the proceeds from the event benefit 9/11-related charities. Second, the race fosters a community spirit and a sense of patriotism as Americans from all over the DC metro area congregate for a good cause.
If you'd like to take part in the race, you can register online for $40. Be sure to stick around after you cross the finish line: An all-ages celebration will follow the 5K, promising music, food, drinks, and an awards ceremony at 7:30 p.m.
