October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Indian Head

October 15, 2013

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month at Indian Head — and everywhere.

One in eight American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. It's the leading cause of death for women, and yes, it affects men too. Over 222,000 people will be diagnosed this year, and more than 40,000 will die.

Women, men, young, old, friends, family, neighbors — eventually breast cancer will touch us all. Take time this month to learn breast cancer risk factors, from environment and family history to personal habits like smoking. Also consider donating to one of the many charities that fund breast cancer research and support, but before doing so check the charity's rating on Charity Navigator and understand how they'll use your money.

Remember, fighting breast cancer means more than just wearing pink. Strike a blow for prevention and cure today.
